PROTOCERAMIC: TILE TECTONICS
Client: Cevisama

Protoceramics is an ongoing research that focuses on novel material formations with a special interest in tectonic performance. The work investigates a new spectrum of possibilities for the latest generation of thin, large format ceramic tiles, which are almost exclusively considered as cladding and decorative interior elements. The project starts with a series of hypothetical operations and conditions that, once applied, can reformulate not only the role of the material as a constructive component, but also unfold a new range of robust topological, prototypical configurations.

The Protoceramics Exhibition was on display in Valencia, marking the third contribution of MaP+S to the Cevisama. Working with thin and extremely large format tiles MaP+S re-imagined tiles by proposing new material formation that lend the thin material structural properties through cutting, folding, and bending.
